Mumbai, Sep 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has mandated the Medical Education and Drugs Department to formulate a policy aimed at delivering comprehensive cancer care to the residents of the state.
During a meeting on Monday, he emphasized the urgent need to establish cancer treatment centers at multiple tiers to ensure effective cancer care.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed the establishment of comprehensive cancer treatment services, including diagnostic facilities, day-care radiotherapy, and chemotherapy units in every district.
He highlighted the need for the immediate completion of the unfinished Sant Tukadoji Maharaj Cancer Hospital in Nagpur.
He mentioned that necessary funding will be pursued for this initiative.
CM Fadnavis also indicated that a request would be directed to Shri Sai Sansthan for the construction of a modern cancer hospital in Sainagar at Shirdi.
He stressed that immediate services should be accessible to those in need, proposing the establishment of a single cloud command center to oversee three types of treatment facilities.
Moreover, he insisted that patients battling cancer should receive early diagnosis and effective treatment methodologies.
This directive follows the statement made by the state Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar in July, announcing plans for two new cancer hospitals in Aundh (Pune) and Nashik, along with eight district hospitals statewide to accommodate the growing number of patients and reduce their reliance on costly private healthcare options.
Chief Minister Fadnavis revealed that the health department has submitted a proposal to the Asian Development Bank requesting financial support of Rs 8,000 crore.
