Mumbai, June 17 (NationPress) Politician Sudhakar Badgujar from Nashik, who was recently dismissed by the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena for engaging in anti-party activities, officially joined the BJP on Tuesday. His induction took place in the company of prominent party figures including state party chief and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan, and state unit working president Ravindra Chavan.
Nitesh Rane, the Minister of Ports and Shipping from the BJP, had earlier accused Badgujar of having connections with Salim Kutta, an associate of notorious underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim. Local legislator Seema Hire had also requested the party leadership to prevent Badgujar's induction.
Significantly, Bawankule had shown serious concerns regarding Badgujar's entry into the party.
During Badgujar's official induction, Bawankule acknowledged the existing discord but emphasized that there were no significant differences of opinion (Manbhed aahet Manbhed nahit). Some BJP leaders believe that Badgujar's inclusion will advantageous for the party in upcoming local and civic body elections.
Dramatic scenes unfolded during Badgujar's entry into the BJP. Scheduled to join at 2 PM, Minister Girish Mahajan arrived at the party office in South Mumbai, but both state president Bawankule and executive state president Chavan had yet to arrive. After numerous phone calls, Bawankule finally made it to the office.
“I was unaware of Badgujar's entry today; I thought it was scheduled for tomorrow,” stated Bawankule, who arrived after a weekly cabinet meeting.
Party insiders indicated that Bawankule was hesitant about Badgujar's induction, given Badgujar's previous revelations regarding Bawankule’s foreign visit.
Additionally, several party leaders from Nashik and state levels opposed Badgujar's entry due to the allegations made by Nitesh Rane about his connections to underworld figure Salim Kutta, which had stirred controversy in the state assembly. Following this, then-Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis had mandated an investigation through an SIT.
Nevertheless, Nitesh Rane, who had previously criticized Badgujar, today welcomed him into the party. “If anyone approaches us with the thread of Hindutva, we will embrace them. Badgujar is now completely saffron. His journey towards Hindutva has begun earnestly. His son actively participated in the Sakal Hindutva Morcha we organized recently,” he remarked.
Following his official induction, Badgujar stated, “I have joined the BJP today. I express my gratitude to the BJP and Devendra Fadnavis. Girish Mahajan is a problem solver; when disaster strikes, he paves the way, and he has paved my path. I am innocent.”
He further promised to work diligently for the party's success and consolidation in the run-up to the forthcoming local and civic body elections.
