Maharashtra: BJP Legislator Ram Shinde Poised for State Council Chairperson Role

Nagpur, Dec 17 (NationPress) BJP legislator and former minister Ram Shinde is poised to take on the role of chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council.

The BJP has put forth his nomination for the chairperson’s position. The election is scheduled for Wednesday. The Maha Vikas Aghadi has yet to declare its candidate. Given the strength of the BJP alongside its allies Shiv Sena and NCP, Shinde’s election appears to be assured.

Shinde belongs to the Dhangar community and originates from Ahilyanagar, formerly part of Ahmednagar district. He was elected to the state assembly in 2014 and served as a minister in the Devendra Fadnavis-led cabinet. In the 2019 Assembly elections, he lost to NCP candidate Rohit Pawar from the Karjat Jamshed constituency. Following this, he became a member of the state council. In the recent assembly elections, he again faced defeat by Rohit Pawar.

In a post on X, Shinde mentioned that he has been nominated for the upcoming state council chairperson election set for Wednesday. He plans to submit his nomination at 10 am tomorrow.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule for his nomination.

Shiv Sena was also eager to secure the chairperson's position; however, the BJP opted not to relinquish the post. The state council chairperson position has remained vacant since the term of the previous chairperson, Rqmraje Naik Nimbalkar, ended in 2022.

The state Assembly Speaker’s position is also held by BJP legislator Rahul Narwekar.
