Ram Shinde of BJP Elected as Chairperson of Maharashtra Legislative Council

Nagpur, Dec 19 (NationPress) BJP legislator and former minister Ram Shinde has been elected as the chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council unanimously on Thursday.
Shinde submitted his nomination as the Mahayuti candidate on Wednesday, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi chose not to present a candidate due to insufficient numbers.
Accompanying Ram Shinde to the Chair were Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with Leader of the Opposition Ambadas Danve.
CM Fadnavis expressed gratitude to both ruling and opposition members for supporting Shinde's unanimous election as chairperson of the Legislative Council.
The position of the state council chairperson became vacant after the term of Ramraje Nimbalkar ended on July 7, 2022. Subsequently, the council's sessions were overseen by Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe.
BJP legislator Shrikant Bhartiya put forth the resolution for Shinde's election, which was backed by Shiv Sena legislator Manish Kayande. Another resolution was presented by BJP legislator Uma Khapre, receiving support from NCP legislator Amol Mitkari.
A similar resolution was initiated by NCP legislator Shivajirao Garje, with backing from BJP legislator Dnyaneshwar Mhatre.
In a congratulatory speech for Shinde, CM Fadnavis remarked, "Ram Shinde is a Professor, and thus he understands how to manage a class. Previously, N. S. Farande, the former chairperson, was also a Professor who managed the House effectively. I have complete faith that Shinde will similarly govern the House with discipline and sensitivity."
"We hold the belief that a teacher is a constant source of knowledge. Therefore, a teacher is always a learner and an educator. Establishing a solid foundation is a key duty of the presiding officers. We are confident that you will fulfill this responsibility, especially during unruly times," he expressed.
