Mumbai, July 2 (NationPress) Members from both ruling and opposition factions of the Maharashtra Legislative Council expressed their frustration on Wednesday regarding their overlooked status as members of the Upper House. They voiced concerns about inadequate allocation of funds and the lack of attention from government officials during sessions, including the processing of their work proposals.

BJP's Parinay Phule, a close associate of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, shared his discontent over the perceived neglect from officials and the potential for reduced development funding. He stated, "At times, I regret becoming an MLC. The seriousness of this house seems to be dismissed. It is crucial that we adopt a firm stance on this issue," Phule remarked.

The MLC voiced his disappointment regarding the absence of officials during discussions and the perceived disrespect shown to the House.

"We have been informed that the Cabinet is considering a reduction in the funds designated for MLCs. Furthermore, responses from the administration to council members are often delayed or completely absent, despite directives from the chair," he added.

Phule emphasized that MLCs represent the people of Maharashtra and should not be subjected to disrespect.

During a speech by Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab, ruling NCP MLC Sanjay Khodke highlighted the absence of officials to document the discussions.

Parab called for the adjournment of the house and proposed a meeting with senior leaders to address the ongoing concerns.

Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe acknowledged the need for a discussion on the lack of official engagement during proceedings.

“It is true that timely responses from officials and departments are lacking. The allocations for council members need to be discussed with both the Chief and Deputy Chief Ministers. We must address this,” she stated.

Subsequently, the House was adjourned for the day.
