Mumbai, Feb 6 (NationPress) The Maharashtra government has officially sanctioned the creation of a state-level apex body known as the Maharashtra Agency for Holistic International Mobility and Advancements (MAHIMA). This entity, which is fully owned by the government and operates as a not-for-profit organization, is designed to foster an environment that enhances overseas employment opportunities for the skilled workforce of the state.

MAHIMA will play a pivotal role in coordinating with NSDC-International, global employers, skill universities, training centers, industry groups, and recruiting agencies.

The agency aims to support candidates through various services such as skill and language training, counseling, documentation assistance, pre-departure orientation, and financial support mechanisms including scholarships and credit guarantees.

According to the government resolution, the agency's primary focus will encompass several key areas, including international partnerships, promotional activities, maintaining a database of eligible candidates, guidance and counseling, skill and language training, cultural etiquette assistance, documentation facilitation, pre-departure orientation, as well as technological and infrastructural development.

Established under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, MAHIMA will operate under the Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department.

In light of the ongoing challenges in domestic job creation and the abundance of employment prospects in developed nations, which often offer significantly higher wages than those available in India, there has been a notable shift among Indian youth towards seeking international employment in recent years. A considerable number of these individuals hail from Maharashtra.

States such as Kerala, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh have already set up dedicated umbrella organizations to effectively coordinate and implement initiatives related to overseas employment. Through these entities, skilled workers are being given access to job opportunities abroad.

Experts assert that establishing a robust and well-coordinated ecosystem for the skilled workforce is crucial for enhancing employment prospects and facilitating long-term career development.

Providing access to high-quality training, language skills, certification, counseling, and trustworthy placement support empowers workers to compete effectively in both domestic and international job markets.

Furthermore, a structured system that connects skill institutions, industries, recruiters, and government agencies mitigates exploitation, ensures better wages and working conditions, and fosters confidence among job seekers.

Moreover, such an ecosystem enables young professionals to adapt to evolving global demands and enhances the overall credibility of the workforce, making them more appealing to employers around the globe.

Point of View

The launch of MAHIMA signifies a proactive approach by the Maharashtra government to address the pressing challenge of employment for youth. This initiative not only aligns with the global job market trends but also positions Maharashtra as a leader in facilitating international employment opportunities. By fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, MAHIMA aims to create a more skilled and competitive workforce that can thrive in the global arena. It's a timely and necessary step towards enhancing the employability of our youth.
