Maharashtra to Implement Unique Identification for Infrastructure Projects Similar to Aadhaar

Mumbai, Jan 2 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has made a pivotal decision to establish a unique identification number for all infrastructure projects across the state, akin to the Aadhaar system utilized for individuals, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office.
"Numerous departments execute similar development initiatives in the same locality. This often results in a wastage of crores of rupees due to redundant efforts. Just as Aadhaar has excluded many fraudulent beneficiaries and duplicate names, this initiative aims to prevent the duplication of development projects," the CMO noted.
This decision holds significant importance as the state government is currently managing a series of infrastructure endeavors worth over Rs 3 lakh crore throughout Mumbai and other regions of Maharashtra.
"The Chief Minister proposed that each infrastructure venture should possess a unique ID to facilitate effective planning and coherence in development efforts. This will allow stakeholders to access comprehensive information regarding the location, type of work planned, and specific project requirements on a unified dashboard. Consequently, this will simplify the identification of projects needed in various areas, promoting balanced development and optimal utilization of resources and labor. This data will be integrated with the PM Gati Shakti Portal, Gram Vikas Portal, and the Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC)," stated the CMO.
Chief Minister Fadnavis has established a committee to define the format for this initiative.
The committee includes Additional Chief Secretary of Planning Department Rajagopal Deora, Principal Secretary (Expenditure) Saurabh Vijay, Principal Secretary of Rural Development Department Eknath Dawle, and Divisional Commissioner of Nashik Praveen Gedam.
The Chief Minister has instructed the committee to present its report to the Cabinet.
In addition, the Cabinet has resolved to consolidate all social development corporations in the state onto a single IT platform. This will centralize all schemes from various development corporations, achieving the goal of 'Ease of Living'. Moreover, it will ensure that all societal segments can access all schemes and their associated benefits from one location.
A separate committee of four officials has also been constituted to finalize the format for this initiative.
The committee consists of Additional Chief Secretary of Urban Development-1 Asim Gupta, Principal Secretary of Higher Education Department Vikas Rastogi, Secretary of Rural Development Vijay Waghmare, and Pune Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar.
This committee is tasked with submitting its findings to the state Cabinet.
The Cabinet has also proposed the introduction of an 'e-cabinet', modeled after the 'e-office' concept. This initiative aims to manage the Cabinet agenda through tablets, reducing paper usage and contributing to environmental conservation, as per the CMO's statement.
