Mumbai, Dec 18 (NationPress) The President of the Maharashtra Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Sunil Tatkare, highlighted the party's dedication to preserving unity within the MahaYuti alliance as the elections for 29 municipal corporations, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), approach.
After an internal review meeting, Tatkare detailed the party's position on alliance discussions and internal roles.
He stated that the main objective is to maintain harmony and understanding within the MahaYuti.
Discussions regarding seat-sharing and coordination are actively ongoing at the state level.
"Our aim is to contest the forthcoming elections as the MahaYuti alliance. Decisions about negotiations and the future direction are anticipated to be concluded by today or tomorrow," Tatkare informed the media.
On Thursday, he conducted several review meetings to evaluate the party's readiness for the BMC elections and other civic elections throughout the state.
During these discussions, he engaged with key party officials to assess local sentiments.
Tatkare also mentioned a late-night meeting with NCP President Ajit Pawar and the party's National Working President, Praful Patel, to deliberate on the BMC elections and to formulate subsequent steps for the alliance based on feedback from regional leaders, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for Saturday to aim for a positive conclusion and make a final announcement.
This is crucial as the nomination process begins on December 23.
When inquired about recent comments made by Mumbai BJP Chief Amit Satam, insinuating that the NCP would exit the MahaYuti alliance if former Minister Nawab Malik is the coordinator for BMC elections, Tatkare refrained from commenting directly.
However, he noted that high-level discussions have already occurred with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
He also clarified Nawab Malik's current role, stating that he is the Chairman of the NCP's internal election management committee.
Tatkare reaffirmed that as the State NCP President, he is overseeing the Mumbai region and closely collaborating with the party's top leadership to ensure a unified front.
The NCP is preparing to contest independently if it does not secure a position within the MahaYuti alliance for the upcoming BMC elections.
The NCP is seeking a minimum of 50 seats within the MahaYuti alliance, but if this does not materialize, the party may contest 50 seats on its own, as indicated by sources from the party's Mumbai unit.
