Results for elections to 309 urban local bodies across Rajasthan are being declared on Monday, 14 September 2026, deciding the fate of 38,889 candidates and laying the ground for the formation of governing boards across 10 Municipal Corporations, 47 Municipal Councils, and 252 Municipalities. Vote counting began at 8 am and results were expected to be declared by afternoon.

Scale of the Contest

The elections were conducted in two phases — on September 9 and September 11 — with a total voter turnout of 73.56%, more than three percentage points higher than the previous urban local body elections in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded 9,290 candidates, while the Indian National Congress (Congress) fielded 9,027. Independent candidates made up the largest single group, with 18,732 contestants entering the fray.

Other parties included the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) with 948 candidates, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with 311, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) with 298, the CPI(M) with 185, and the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) with 98 candidates.

The 'One State, One Election' Model

For the first time in Rajasthan, results for all 309 urban local bodies are being declared simultaneously under the state's newly adopted 'One State, One Election' model. Previously, urban local body elections were conducted in separate phases, with the overall electoral process stretching over more than a year. Notably, this compressed timeline is also expected to limit the window available for parties to consolidate numbers and negotiate board formation — a significant structural shift in how local political outcomes are managed.

What the Last Cycle Revealed

Between 2019 and 2021, elections to 196 urban local bodies were held in five phases when the Congress was in power in Rajasthan. Of the 7,500 wards contested, the Congress won 3,036, the BJP secured 2,676, and Independents and other parties accounted for 1,788. However, ward-level wins did not automatically translate into control of bodies. The Congress eventually formed boards in 125 of the 196 urban local bodies, while the BJP formed boards in 64, and Independents and others in 7.

This cycle underscores a crucial reality: the 18,732 Independent candidates contesting in 2026 could prove decisive in closely fought local bodies where neither major party secures a clear majority.

What Each Party Is Chasing

For the BJP — currently the ruling party in Rajasthan — the results serve as a test of its ability to convert state-level power into urban dominance. BJP leaders have claimed the party will succeed in forming boards in more than 200 urban local bodies. The Congress, meanwhile, has not announced a specific target but has expressed confidence that its urban support base remains intact despite the change in government at the state level. Senior leaders of both parties reportedly spent Sunday assessing likely outcomes and calculating numbers ahead of the count.

In Bikaner, counting is being conducted at the district headquarters rather than at the respective body's headquarters, the only exception to the statewide arrangement. The State Election Commission has made real-time counting results available on its official website. The outcomes will offer a significant early indicator of the political mood in urban Rajasthan as the state moves further into its current electoral cycle.
