Kolkata, June 11 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal and BJP representative, Suvendu Adhikari, has formally requested Governor C.V. Ananda Bose's intervention to initiate disciplinary measures against the Inspector-in-charge of the local police station. This request follows allegations that the police failed to avert violence between two factions in Maheshtala, located in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

Numerous vehicles were damaged and set ablaze, in addition to adjacent residences, while several officers on the scene faced attacks from the unruly mob.

LoP Adhikari has labeled the disturbances as inherently communal.

He accused miscreants of vandalizing the Shiva Temple in Maheshtala, where they unlawfully encroached upon land owned by the temple committee to establish their businesses.

On the evening of June 6, Adhikari publicly urged Governor Bose to review the Maheshtala situation and called for the prompt arrest of Mukul Mia, the Inspector-in-charge of the Rabindra Nagar police station.

“His blatant association with the Jehadi vandals is evident: first, by failing to manage the situation when the vandalism erupted almost within his police station’s vicinity; second, by procrastinating on relaying a distress call to higher authorities for additional support; and third, by permitting the situation to escalate, thereby giving the Jihadis crucial time to gather stone pelters and stockpile weapons,” he stated on his official X account.

Labeling the clashes as a premeditated scheme, LoP Adhikari asserted that the local Hindu populace endured significant suffering, with the temple vandalized, shops and vehicles destroyed, homes looted, and even women attacked.

“This chaos transpired due to the deliberate negligence and complicity of Inspector Mukul Mia of the Rabindra Nagar police station. He is closely aligned with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Jihadis, participates in their events, and often sports the TMC badge on his uniform. He must be detained and thoroughly questioned,” he added.
