New Delhi, Jan 30 (NationPress) Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal on Thursday condemned former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, alleging he has turned the capital into a “garbage dump.” Her remarks came after a striking protest outside Kejriwal’s residence, where she showcased heaps of waste to emphasize the deteriorating cleanliness conditions in the city.
In an interview with IANS, Swati Maliwal conveyed her dissatisfaction regarding the escalating garbage crisis in Delhi, highlighting the issues of overflowing lanes, drains, and roads.
“Kejriwal enjoys a life of luxury, protected by Z+ security, while Delhi is suffocating in filth,” she stated, characterizing the situation not merely as a cleanliness problem but as a significant health emergency.
Maliwal’s protest led to her being detained by Delhi Police, aiming to shed light on the negligence of local authorities.
“The residents of Delhi are in distress, yet Kejriwal remains oblivious. We brought the trash back to his doorstep to illustrate the city’s plight. Perhaps then, he will grasp the stench that is choking Delhi,” she remarked.
The tension heightened when Maliwal was detained under Section 188, resulting in an FIR against her, but she stood her ground.
“I’m undeterred by his FIR or his police,” she asserted, underscoring her dedication to voicing the concerns of the people she represents.
As an MP, Maliwal reaffirmed her duty to be a voice for the populace rather than someone who merely occupies an office.
“I am Delhi’s MP, and I will persist in advocating for the truth and for the individuals who are suffering,” she concluded.
With the Assembly elections on the horizon, the competition for Delhi is heating up, as the AAP, BJP, and Congress are making every effort to attract voters ahead of the February 5 polls. Although the results of this crucial contest won’t be revealed until February 8, all three parties have rolled out their manifestos, outlining their pledges in a bid for control of the capital.
