New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) BJP leader and IT department incharge Amit Malviya criticized the Lok Sabha’s Leader of Opposition (LoP), Rahul Gandhi, for his recent vacation in Vietnam, while also condemning the former’s ‘Khatakhat’ financial aid model for women. Malviya stated that this model has allegedly led to economic distress in states governed by the Congress party.

Using the social media platform X, Malviya pointed out that Congress-led states are struggling financially to deliver on LoP Gandhi’s ‘Khatakhat’ model, which promises financial assistance to women.

“Following Himachal and Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Khatakhat’ model has now wreaked havoc in Telangana. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who has threatened to expose journalists for their criticism, acknowledges that his administration lacks the resources to pay salaries on time or provide Dearness Allowance,” wrote Malviya on X.

These comments came amid the backdrop of CM Reddy’s angry response to derogatory remarks made by journalists about him and his family.

Malviya’s fears regarding the poor economic implications of Gandhi’s ‘Khatakhat’ model coincided with the upcoming Budget 2025-26 presentation in Congress-led Himachal Pradesh, where the BJP has been scrutinizing the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu administration for alleged financial mismanagement and delayed salary payments to state employees.

The ‘Khatakhat’ model, which was introduced by Gandhi prior to the Lok Sabha elections, promises a direct transfer of Rs 1 lakh annually to one woman from each Economically Weaker Section family if Congress comes to power.

This initiative, known as the 'Khatakhat' scheme, equates to around Rs 8,500 monthly, with the aim of enhancing women's economic empowerment.

However, critics have raised concerns regarding the lack of clarity from Congress on how it plans to finance the Rs 1 lakh annual transfers to impoverished women. Questions have been raised about potential tax increases or significant borrowing, which could adversely affect the economy.

Besides the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has included financial aid promises for women in its Assembly election pledges as well.

In the recent Delhi Assembly election, Congress pledged to provide Rs 2,500 monthly to women in the region.

In Karnataka, the Congress government is offering Rs 2,000 monthly to women, while in Himachal Pradesh, women receive Rs 1,500 monthly, and in Telangana, the amount is Rs 2,500 monthly.

In nearly all these states, governments are reportedly facing difficulties in boosting revenue amid increased borrowing to support Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Khatakhat’ model.
