Kolkata, July 28 (NationPress) - The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday of initiating training for booth-level officers (BLOs) in the state without prior notification to the state government.
While addressing an administrative review meeting in Birbhum district, she stated, "The training was commenced without informing either myself or the Chief Secretary."
Banerjee further alleged that some District Magistrates assigned duties for the BLO training without notifying their superiors.
"I learned that around 1,000 state government personnel were dispatched to Delhi for this training, of which I was unaware. The district magistrates ought to have reported this to their higher-ups and the Chief Secretary," she emphasized.
She issued a warning, stating that those assigned election duties are ultimately state government employees.
"The authority of the Election Commission of India only commences post the announcement of election dates. Do not forget that you are all state government employees. It is imperative to ensure that no genuine voter's name is removed from the voters' list. Bengali-speaking individuals are facing harassment everywhere. We must support them," the Chief Minister remarked.
Reacting strongly to Banerjee's veiled warning to the BLOs regarding their employment with the state, BJP's Information Technology Cell Chief and the party's West Bengal central observer, Amit Malviya, asserted that the Chief Minister was overtly threatening ECI officials.
"Mamata Banerjee is now publicly intimidating Election Commission officials, suggesting they work for the state and should disregard orders from the National Election Commission! What’s driving this desperation? It's to protect her illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya vote bank. She is openly opposing a clean, verified voter list — TMC's survival hinges on fake voters," Malviya stated on his official X account.
He further claimed this desperation indicates Banerjee's awareness that without those fraudulent votes, the Trinamool Congress would fall apart.
"This isn’t merely political arrogance — it’s a direct assault on India’s Constitution and democracy!" Malviya concluded.
