The visit came days after an arson incident on 11 July in which six houses belonging to members of the Meitei community were allegedly set ablaze, triggering widespread tension in the locality.

The Arson Incident and Immediate Response

On 11 July, miscreants allegedly torched six houses belonging to Meitei community members in the Kanto Sabal area, sparking confrontation and heightened tension across the locality. Additional security forces were subsequently deployed to prevent further escalation and restore law and order. During his visit, Chief Minister Singh personally oversaw the reconstruction of the six damaged houses, signalling the government's commitment to standing by affected families.

Addressing residents and a local gathering, Singh stressed that sectors such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare can only flourish when peace and normalcy prevail. 'Without peace, there can be no development,' he said, urging every citizen to take personal responsibility for preserving communal harmony. He also assured residents that the government is making every effort to ensure free movement for all communities along the National Highways passing through the state, and that restoring normalcy remains a top priority.

Memorandum from Local Bodies

The Village Development Committee, Kanto Sabal, along with local Meira Paibis and club representatives, submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister highlighting security concerns and seeking stronger security arrangements to ensure the safety and free movement of residents. Singh assured the delegation that the issues raised would be examined with due priority in consultation with the concerned departments and security agencies.

Sitting MLA of the Sekmai Assembly Constituency — the state's lone Scheduled Caste (SC) reserved seat, in which Kanto Sabal is located — H. Dingo Singh noted that the Chief Minister had taken significant steps towards restoring peace since assuming office.
