Imphal, July 8 (NationPress) In a series of coordinated operations across Manipur, the Army, along with various central and state security forces, successfully apprehended four hardcore militants affiliated with different groups and seized 62 assorted arms, a significant amount of ammunition, and other military supplies from eight districts, officials reported on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Defence stated that these intelligence-driven, collaborative operations led to the capture of four militants from various hill and valley-based militant organizations.
These operations took place over the past few days in the seven valley and hill districts of Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Tengnoupal, Imphal East, and Imphal West.
The army utilized specialized resources, including explosive detection dogs. Formations from the Army and Assam Rifles, under the Spear Corps, executed a series of operations in collaboration with Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
The recovered weapons during these joint operations comprised carbines, AK-47 rifles, self-loading rifles (SLR), three .303 rifles, single and double-barreled shotguns, INSAS rifles, improvised mortars (Pompi), numerous pistols, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), grenades, ammunition, and additional military supplies.
The apprehended militants, along with the recovered arms, ammunition, explosives, and other materials, have been handed over to Manipur Police. These coordinated efforts by security forces underscore their steadfast commitment to upholding peace and security in Manipur, as stated by the spokesperson.
In a related incident, Manipur Police apprehended one Khumanthem Bikramjit Singh (43), a resident of Thoubal district. This individual was allegedly supplying mobile SIM cards to underground organizations, including the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-PRO), according to a police official.
As per the official, these SIM cards were used by members of banned groups based in Myanmar to extort money from the local population in Thoubal district. The police recovered 103 SIM cards from various mobile service providers from the detainee.
