Imphal, July 28 (NationPress) Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla emphasized the necessity of enhancing forensic science capabilities within the state to accelerate investigative processes, officials reported.
A representative from Raj Bhavan disclosed that the Governor presided over a review session regarding the operations of the Directorate of Forensic Sciences, Manipur, and the State Forensic Laboratory.
Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar provided an extensive overview pertaining to the creation of a mobile forensic unit, a mobile forensic van, a new facility for forensic examination of expensive residue, and the establishment of a dedicated DNA analysis wing, among other initiatives, all aimed at fortifying forensic capabilities in the northeastern region.
The Governor also received insights into the existing hurdles faced by the Directorate, particularly regarding manpower shortages. Bhalla, a former Union Home Secretary, inquired about the status of unresolved cases and urged for their expedited resolution.
During the review, officials from the Institute of Forensic Sciences for Training and Skilling (IFS-T&S), part of the National Forensic Sciences University, a key institution under the Ministry of Home Affairs, presented key initiatives undertaken by the University.
The officials informed the Governor about various challenges stemming from the lack of essential equipment and infrastructure at the Institute.
Academically, it was noted that PG diploma and diploma courses have been conducted across various disciplines within forensic sciences and investigations.
Additionally, a meeting of the ‘Governor-in-Council’ took place at the Raj Bhavan conference hall, chaired by Bhalla. This meeting saw participation from Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel and other administrative Secretaries from diverse departments, addressing several departmental agendas.
