Imphal, Dec 28 (NationPress) Manipur's Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla emphasized the state government's unwavering dedication to harnessing Manipur’s extensive potential across various sectors via targeted development initiatives. Speaking at the Sports Meet-cum-92nd Anniversary of the Mao Students’ Union (MSU) held in Punanamei, Senapati district, he outlined the focus on strengthening infrastructure, enhancing road connectivity, improving public service delivery, and generating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
He stressed that all developmental efforts are crafted to resonate with local aspirations, ensuring inclusive growth and enduring socio-economic advancement. The program at Senapati served as a powerful symbol of unity, support, and national commitment, reinforcing a shared dedication to equitable development and lasting harmony throughout the state.
Highlighting the cultural richness and untapped potential of the predominantly Naga tribal district in areas like agriculture, horticulture, traditional crafts, sports, and eco-tourism, Bhalla reaffirmed the government's resolve to unlock these prospects through focused initiatives.
Enhanced infrastructure, improved connectivity, superior public services, and sustainable livelihoods tailored to local demands are the government's primary objectives, he stated.
Governor Bhalla noted the Mao region's historical spirit of cooperation and assistance, having provided support to various communities during challenging times.
As a former Union Home Secretary, Bhalla remarked that commemorating the anniversary with a sports meet was fitting, as sports foster discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and respect—values critical for leadership and nation-building.
He indicated that the youth involved in the event signify the future leadership of the region, with sports serving as a vital platform for nurturing young leaders imbued with confidence, integrity, and a sense of service.
Praising the blending of modern sports with indigenous practices, the Governor noted that these initiatives foster holistic development while respecting cultural identity.
He further highlighted that organizing the program during the festive season boosts community involvement and strengthens intergenerational bonds, enhancing unity and shared purpose.
Under the theme ‘Empowering the Future through Sports’, the event celebrated the establishment of MSU in 1933 and its over nine decades of contributions to society.
On this occasion, the Governor unveiled a commemorative monolith. Local MLA L. Dikho, Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze, President of the NPP Manipur state unit and former Lok Sabha member, as well as the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Senapati district, MSU president, and other dignitaries were also present.
The program attracted participation from students, athletes, community leaders, representatives of various civil society organizations, and the public, featuring cultural performances by artists from diverse communities, showcasing the region’s rich cultural tapestry and reinforcing unity and shared heritage.
