Imphal, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF & PD) Department of the Manipur government has officially unveiled a program offering free LPG connections for eligible women beneficiaries as part of Phase 3.0 of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).
The initiative from the Manipur government coincides with the Indian government's announcement of an additional 25 lakh free LPG connections, reinforcing its commitment to women empowerment, enhanced health standards, and decreased household burdens through access to LPG.
In a media briefing, Rajjyoti Das, Divisional LPG Sales Head at the Silchar Indane Divisional Office, elaborated on the essential aspects of PMUY Phase 3.0, which includes eligibility requirements and necessary documentation to obtain LPG connections.
He emphasized that numerous families, especially in rural, remote, and hilly areas, remain unserved, and this new phase is designed to include households that were excluded in previous phases.
Das stated that the scheme aims to provide 25 lakh free LPG connections by 2025-2026 and encouraged eligible families who have been deprived of or cannot afford LPG connections to utilize this scheme.
K. Bono Singh, Director of the CAF & PD Department, indicated that a total of 222,010 free LPG connections have been distributed in the state under the PMUY initiative so far.
He reiterated that PMUY Phase 3.0 is focused on reaching those households that have not yet received LPG connections.
Additionally, District Ujjwala Committees have been established to supervise the implementation of the PMUY scheme, ensuring that only qualified households receive these connections.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was initiated by the Prime Minister in May 2016 to provide deposit-free LPG connections to adult women from rural and disadvantaged families nationwide, facilitating access to clean, safe, and affordable cooking fuel.
To date, over 10.33 crore deposit-free domestic LPG connections have been granted to women from economically challenged households across the nation during Phase 1 (2016) and Phase 2 (2021).
