Imphal, Dec 20 (NationPress) - The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, stated on Saturday that the state's remarkable biodiversity and distinctive ecological conditions position it as a living laboratory for scientific exploration.
He highlighted the necessity for concentrated research in vital areas such as climate change, biotechnology, sustainable agriculture, and environmental sciences. This research is essential not only for enhancing scientific knowledge but also for supporting the state’s efforts in sustainable development and environmental conservation.
During the inauguration of the Manipur Science Congress 2025, Bhalla pointed out that science transcends mere knowledge acquisition; it is a critical tool for tackling urgent global issues like climate change, resource depletion, and environmental stress, which are becoming increasingly apparent through unpredictable monsoons, floods, and heat waves.
He also acknowledged India's rich legacy in scientific innovation and recent accomplishments in space science and digital public infrastructure, attributing these successes to a clear policy vision from the Centre aimed at fortifying the ecosystems of science, technology, and innovation.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of promoting applied, problem-focused research that aligns with local and regional realities, particularly in the northeastern region. He called upon scientists and researchers to lead society in the intelligent utilization, conservation, and regeneration of resources.
The Governor noted that platforms like the Manipur Science Congress play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration, enhancing the quality of research, and facilitating broader dissemination of findings through both national and international publications.
Organized by Manipur University in conjunction with the Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC), the theme for the Manipur Science Congress 2025 is ‘Science, Innovation and Climate Change’. It serves as an essential venue for scientists, researchers, academicians, and students to discuss contemporary scientific challenges and promote innovation-driven solutions, particularly regarding climate change.
Attending the inaugural event were Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof. N. Lokendra Singh and Science & Technology Secretary and MASTEC Member Secretary Kengoo Zuringla.
