Gurugram, April 30 (NationPress) A significant fire erupted in the slum and scrap zone of Sector 102 in Gurugram at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, devastating numerous huts and leaving many residents without shelter, according to fire officials.
The inferno rapidly spread, turning several slum structures into ashes and obliterating the possessions within.
Fire engines from Bhim Nagar, Sector 37 (Udyog Vihar), Sector 29, and Pataudi were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters successfully contained the flames before they could extend to nearby communities.
“There were around 150 huts in the area, of which 40 to 50 were lost. Approximately 10 fire engines were utilized,” stated Fire Officer Narender, noting that the fire was managed by 7 a.m.
Fortunately, the fire officer reported no casualties; however, the intense flames and dense smoke caused significant alarm among residents.
The origin of the fire is still unknown, but preliminary investigations indicate it might have ignited while someone was preparing tea inside one of the huts.
“A call reporting the fire came in at 3:50 a.m. Our team arrived within 10 minutes. There were 150 huts, out of which 40 to 50 were destroyed. About 10 vehicles were dispatched from Sector 37, Bhim Nagar, and Pataudi fire stations to combat the fire,” Fire Officer Narender elaborated.
Several small cooking gas cylinders reportedly exploded during the fire, worsening its spread. Nearly 400 to 450 individuals residing in the slum were safely evacuated. Rescue and cooling efforts persisted throughout the morning.
Smoke continued to billow from the rubble, and a fire engine remained on-site as a precautionary measure. A thorough search will be conducted once the blaze is completely extinguished, officials confirmed.
