Shillong, June 11 (NationPress) Meghalaya's Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh urged visitors to approach the state with a pure heart and mind on Wednesday, warning that any harmful or illegal behavior would be met with zero tolerance.
During a felicitation event, the Minister emphasized the need for self-discipline and responsible tourism among the local population. He stated, “Sohra is not just a beautiful location but a land filled with good spirit and manners. Despite facing undue criticism from outside, our community has remained steadfast, organizing peaceful rallies and candle vigils while contributing to a remarkable search effort,” Lyngdoh remarked.
The Meghalaya government honored the search and rescue teams in Sohra on Wednesday, recognizing their efforts in recovering the body of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was tragically murdered on June 2 in the Sohra-Cherrapunji area of the East Khasi Hills district.
Raja Raghuvanshi, a tourist from Madhya Pradesh, was allegedly killed by his 24-year-old wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, with assistance from four accomplices during their honeymoon. The accused included Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), Sonam's alleged lover and the mastermind, along with Anand Singh Kurmi (23), Akash Rajput (19), and Vishal Singh Chauhan (22). Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge near the Wei Sawdong parking area, shocking the nation.
A government representative stated that the search and rescue team was commended for their dedicated work in this tragic incident that shook Sohra-Cherrapunji. The felicitation took place at the SDO (Civil) Conference Hall in Sohra, honoring those involved in the search.
