Kolkata, Oct 18 (NationPress) The Met office has forecasted light rain across six districts in south Bengal and in Kolkata over the coming days. Nevertheless, the likelihood of precipitation during Kali Puja and Diwali on Monday, as well as Bhai Dooj on Thursday, remains low.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre located in Alipore, Kolkata, the expected rainfall is attributed to the interaction of southerly and westerly winds, which could lead to thunderstorms and lightning in six districts over Saturday and Sunday.
Rain is anticipated in the North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts on Saturday, with similar conditions expected in these areas along with East Midnapore and Kolkata on Sunday.
However, the chance of rain is expected to diminish starting Monday, with forecasts indicating clear weather for Kali Puja on Monday and for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (Bhai Dooj). The air's moisture levels are set to gradually decline from Monday onwards.
"The weather during the festive days is expected to be clear, and the likelihood of rain on these occasions is minimal. Rain is predicted later today and tomorrow, with potential showers on Monday primarily in the coastal districts of South Bengal," stated a Met department official.
On a related note, the minimum temperature in Kolkata recorded was 24.6 degrees Celsius, while Friday's maximum temperature reached 32.6 degrees Celsius. Northerly winds have contributed to a drop in temperature across Kolkata and nearby regions.
In North Bengal, light rain is expected later today in the hill districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong. On Sunday, rain and thundershowers accompanied by lightning are likely in parts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri. Additionally, the chance of fog in the hill areas, including Darjeeling, will increase over the next few days.
However, clearing weather is anticipated in North Bengal starting Monday.
