Mumbai, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who oversees the Housing Department, announced on Wednesday that the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) plans to construct approximately one lakh houses within the next two years in the state.

The Deputy CM emphasized that the state government is dedicated to realizing the housing aspirations of the ordinary citizen.

He mentioned that a new housing policy will be unveiled shortly to meet this objective.

According to this forthcoming policy, hostels will be established in various locations for common citizens, working women, students, and senior citizens.

Shinde reported that 71,642 applications have been submitted, along with a deposit, for the lottery aimed at selling 3,662 flats from the MHADA Pune Board.

“This demonstrates the trust that applicants have in the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). To honor this trust, it is essential that the lottery winners are granted immediate possession of their flats without compromising on the quality of the homes or the transparency of the lottery process. The Maharashtra government is actively building affordable housing through various initiatives,” he stated.

He remarked that MHADA has facilitated the availability of around 30,000 houses through 13 lots in the past 18 months, which is commendable.

“The government is diligently working to revive stalled housing projects and redevelop slum areas. This will significantly increase the available housing stock. Planned house construction will also be carried out through the Group Redevelopment Scheme in cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Thane,” he added.

Meanwhile, another Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, mentioned that the lottery process is conducted through a fully online, computerized system without any human interference.

“Under this new system, applicants enter the lottery process only after their application is registered and eligibility confirmed. A notification letter is sent to the winners, and after meeting specific requirements, a temporary dekar letter is issued to them,” he explained.

This entire process is designed to be straightforward and transparent, and no intermediaries or brokers have been engaged by MHADA.

“Beneficiaries of MHADA represent a significant investment and serve as MHADA's brand ambassadors,” he commented.

Ajit Pawar affirmed that the Maharashtra government is committed to fulfilling the housing dreams of the common man.

Pune MHADA chairman Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil noted that the Pune Board has delivered a substantial number of affordable housing options.
