Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Bhupender Yadav expressed strong disapproval on Friday regarding the protests conducted by members of the Indian Youth Congress during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam. They labeled the actions as an effort to humiliate the nation at a pivotal moment when India was demonstrating its technological prowess globally.
In an interview with IANS, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticized the protesters, stating, “Desperate and disheartened individuals, consistently rejected by the electorate, have sunk so low as to mock the nation’s dignity — what could be more unfortunate?”
Likewise, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav denounced the demonstration in a post on social media, categorizing it as “absolute shamelessness.” He emphasized that while India is establishing itself as a technological superpower, such protests serve only to damage the country's reputation.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva claimed the protesters were “not Congress workers but goons,” and accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of endorsing actions that undermine India’s interests. He highlighted that such protests occurred during an event hosting international delegates and showcasing India’s capabilities.
Earlier, Youth Congress members reportedly stripped off their shirts and chanted slogans like “PM is compromised” before security intervened. The demonstrators were subsequently detained to prevent disruption of the prestigious event attended by government officials, industry leaders, and foreign representatives.
Authorities stated that legal actions are being initiated for breaching security protocols, and the detained protesters were taken to Tilak Marg Police Station for questioning. In response, security measures at the venue were reinforced.
The youth wing of the Opposition Indian National Congress defended their protest, asserting it aimed to shed light on issues such as unemployment, inflation, and the India–US trade deal.
Despite the incident, officials confirmed that the summit proceeded as planned.
