Gwalior, June 28 (NationPress) A Hindu saint was reportedly assaulted and robbed by a group of unknown individuals at an Ashram in Gwalior district, with the culprits still unapprehended as of Saturday, according to police reports.
The incident took place at Van Kahndeshwari Ashram, situated along the Shivpuri link road (Agra-Mumbai Highway), where Saint Shivananji Maharaj was attacked by three individuals between 9:30 and 10 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Saint Shivananji Maharaj recounted that the three individuals entered the Ashram, claiming they were searching for their buffaloes. They even inquired with the saint whether he had seen their buffaloes before leaving the Ashram. Moments later, they returned and asked the same question, which irritated the saint, leading him to reprimand them, as he informed the police.
"When I insisted they leave the Ashram, they turned on me. One of them struck me with an iron rod, another with a stick, while the third made off with my laptop, suitcase, and drove away in their vehicle," alleged Shivananji Maharaj. He also mentioned that Rs 50,000 in cash was in his suitcase. Upon learning of the incident, a police team visited the Ashram, filed a complaint, and began an investigation.
Reports indicate that the head priest of Juna Akhara, Hari Giri Maharaj, contacted Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday to express his concern regarding the attack on Shivananji Maharaj. On Saturday, CSP Robin Jain spoke with IANS, confirming that efforts to capture the assailants were ongoing. In response to the stolen cash amount of Rs 50,000, the police stated that the victim's testimony had been recorded and further inquiries were in progress.
"In the Gati Gaon area under this police station, we have uncovered a case involving an assault on Shivananji Maharaj at the Van Kahndeshwari Ashram. The assailants also forcibly took his vehicle. The police promptly disseminated information regarding the vehicle and are actively working through various teams to apprehend those involved in the incident," stated CSP Robin Jain.
