Mizoram Launches New Narcotics Stations to Tackle Drug Problems

Aizawl, Dec 11 (NationPress) In an effort to address drug abuse and decrease the availability of narcotics in Mizoram, Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated two new excise and narcotics stations at Saitual and Khawzawl, the recently established district headquarters in the eastern region of the state, according to officials.
A senior official indicated that the establishment of these two new excise and narcotics stations symbolizes the government's steadfast commitment to confronting the drug problem and offering effective solutions for youth affected by drug addiction.
He noted that a significant portion of the drugs trafficked into Mizoram originates from neighboring Myanmar, presenting a serious challenge to the state's efforts to tackle this crisis.
"Following Chief Minister Lalduhoma's assumption of office on December 8 last year, he has made addressing the drug issue a top priority. On his first day in office, he visited a privately-operated de-addiction center before returning home, showcasing his commitment to this important cause," the official stated to the media.
The official added that under the guidance of the Chief Minister, the government has held multiple consultation meetings with NGOs, churches, and relevant departments to formulate strategies for both reducing illicit drug supply and demand.
As part of this thorough approach, revisions to current laws are also in progress to strengthen enforcement measures, the official mentioned.
The inauguration of these stations at Saitual and Khawzawl is a crucial step in enhancing the state's capability to combat the supply of narcotics.
Moreover, a new Excise and Narcotics station in Hnahthial is set to be inaugurated on Thursday by Excise & Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar.
The government's comprehensive strategy to tackle the drug-related threat highlights its dedication to safeguarding the youth and promoting a drug-free Mizoram. The official added that these initiatives, along with community partnerships, are anticipated to significantly aid in achieving this objective.
Between November 20 and December 10, various drugs, including heroin and methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately Rs 200 crore, were seized in Mizoram, Tripura, and Assam.
All these drugs were confiscated in the three northeastern states after being smuggled from Myanmar.
