The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Sampigehalli police station in Bengaluru.
Authorities have initiated an FIR following a complaint lodged by Mohammad Zameer Pasha, a resident of Basavalingappa Nagar in Bengaluru.
The FIR has been filed under various sections, including 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (grievous hurt by dangerous means), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 352 (intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace), and 351(2) read with subsections (3) and (5) (criminal intimidation).
As per the FIR, the incident transpired on Tuesday when Zameer, a mechanic, and his friend Waseem Ahmad were riding in an auto-rickshaw on Sampigehalli Main Road towards Chokkanahalli to retrieve a vehicle for repairs.
They had paused near a eucalyptus grove when approximately seven to eight individuals confronted them.
The group allegedly inquired about their presence in the area and their destination.
In retaliation, Waseem reportedly told them to mind their own affairs, prompting the group to begin verbally abusing and assaulting both men.
Zameer managed to escape but witnessed Waseem being attacked with sticks.
During the assault, Waseem was heard screaming in pain, invoking the name of Allah, as per the FIR.
The assailants insisted that Waseem chant "Jai Shri Ram" instead, continuing their assault, according to the report.
Both victims received treatment at the Yelahanka General Hospital, with Waseem reportedly experiencing diminished hearing in his right ear following the incident.
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara addressed the incident, stating that the police would take necessary legal measures.
"The police will proceed in accordance with the law. I will not issue specific directives for this case. The government does not respond to isolated events with special orders; it functions as a policy-making entity. Relevant officers will act per the IPC and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act," Parameshwara remarked.
The police have launched a search for the unidentified perpetrators.
