New Delhi, April 11 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday commended the launch of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY) in Delhi as a transformative moment for the healthcare landscape of the national capital, facilitated by the 'double-engine' BJP government.

As part of the official inauguration of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) on Thursday, 19 individuals, including 11 women and 8 men, were the first recipients to receive Ayushman Bharat cards under this initiative.

PM Modi expressed his satisfaction with the rollout and highlighted that the residents of Delhi will now benefit from this health scheme.

On X, PM Modi stated, 'A transformative moment for Delhi's healthcare sector! This mission, powered by the double-engine government, will be immensely advantageous for countless brothers and sisters here. I am thrilled that the people of Delhi will now have access to treatment under the Ayushman Yojana.'

The rollout of PM-JAY in Delhi follows closely on the heels of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on April 5, paving the way for the implementation of the Modi administration's flagship health initiative in the national capital.

With this development, Delhi has now become the 35th state or Union territory to embrace the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

The AB-PMJAY is a crucial element of the comprehensive PM-ABHIM framework, which seeks to enhance public health infrastructure and provide improved access to quality healthcare nationwide.

Inaugurated in 2018, PM-JAY offers annual health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family for secondary and tertiary hospital care, targeting economically disadvantaged populations. This scheme is recognized as the world's largest government-funded healthcare program.

The inclusion of Delhi in PM-JAY signifies a pivotal achievement in broadening healthcare access for low-income families in the capital, thereby alleviating their financial strain for essential medical treatments.
