Currently, Annapurna Devi holds the position of Union Minister for Women and Child Development. Her political journey began with her election to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1998, 2000, and 2005. During this time, she served as the Minister of State for the Ministry of Mines and Geology in the Government of Bihar in 2000.
Following the establishment of Jharkhand, she assumed the role of Cabinet Minister, overseeing various portfolios, including Irrigation, Women and Child Welfare, and Registration between 2012 and 2014. She also chaired the Committee on Women and Child Welfare in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from 2005 to 2009.
Elected to the 17th Lok Sabha in 2019, she served as the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Education starting in July 2021. Furthermore, she led an expert committee tasked with revising the Right to Education Act in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020.
