New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his warmest birthday greetings to Union Minister Annapurna Devi on Sunday, praising her dedication to empowering women and youth.
In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi highlighted her significant work, stating, “Wishing a very happy birthday to Union Minister Annapurna Devi Ji. She is leading the charge in empowering our Nari Shakti and supporting the welfare of our Yuva Shakti. May she enjoy a long and healthy life.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also took the opportunity to honour the minister on her birthday, wishing her health and longevity. He remarked, “Warmest birthday wishes to Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smt. @Annapurna4BJP ji. I pray to God for your good health and long life.”
Annapurna Devi, a notable political leader, has a rich history in public service. Originally linked with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), she embarked on her political journey after being elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in a 1998 by-election triggered by the untimely death of her husband, RJD lawmaker Ramesh Yadav.
She also held the position of Minister of State (MoS) for Mines and Geology in the former Bihar government.
In 2019, Devi transitioned to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. She contested from Jharkhand's Koderma and emerged victorious, defeating Babulal Marandi of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik).
In 2024, she successfully retained her seat by a considerable margin of nearly 400,000 votes, overcoming CPI(ML)L's Vinod Kumar Singh.
