New Delhi, June 28 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday commemorated the birth anniversary of the late P.V. Narasimha Rao, acknowledging his crucial influence in steering India’s developmental journey during a vital period of economic and political change.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi stated: “Honoring Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao Garu on his birth anniversary. The nation is thankful for his effective leadership during a significant phase of our growth trajectory. His intellect, wisdom, and scholarly nature are highly respected.”
Political leaders from various parties also paid homage to Narasimha Rao, recognizing him as a visionary leader whose daring economic liberalization policies reshaped the Indian economy and boosted the country’s global reputation.
Born on June 28, 1921, in Laknepalli village of the former Warangal district in today’s Telangana, Narasimha Rao hailed from a Telugu Niyogi Brahmin lineage. He was a freedom fighter during the Indian Independence movement and transitioned into full-time politics post-Independence as a member of the Indian National Congress, eventually serving as India’s ninth Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996. He was the first individual from South India and only the second from a non-Hindi-speaking background to assume this role.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh honored Rao’s legacy through a social media message, referring to him as “a towering statesman and scholar par excellence.”
