Will PM Modi Host BJP Councillors on Feb 13 to Celebrate a 'Historic' Victory in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 5 (NationPress) The BJP's remarkable achievement in seizing control of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has brought an end to over four decades of uninterrupted governance by the Left Democratic Front (LDF). This milestone will be acknowledged nationally, with the Prime Minister's Office hosting an exceptional official reception for the party's councillors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended a personal invitation to a BJP delegation led by Mayor V. V. Rajesh for a dinner at his official residence on February 13.
This type of invitation to municipal leaders is considered uncommon and highlights the political weight the central leadership places on this victory.
The BJP has organized for all 50 of its councillors from the 101-member Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Council to travel to New Delhi.
The councillors are expected to depart from Kerala on February 9 via the Kerala Express train.
BJP branches in various states will host receptions at stations where the train halts for an extended period, transforming the journey into a well-coordinated political campaign.
In addition to the dinner with the Prime Minister, the delegation will also tour significant national monuments in the Capital.
The central leadership aims to frame the Thiruvananthapuram outcome, referred to as a 'golden victory' in Kerala's local body elections, as a pivotal moment on the national stage.
During the visit, the Thiruvananthapuram development plan is also anticipated to be unveiled in Delhi.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi praised the Corporation’s results as 'the dawn of a new era' and a milestone 'etched in golden letters'.
He also sent congratulatory letters to Mayor Rajesh and Deputy Mayor Asha Nath following the election results.
The BJP has gained control of the Corporation with the assistance of an independent councillor, marking the first instance of the party forming an administration in a municipal corporation within Kerala.
The surge of the National Democratic Alliance has relegated the LDF, which governed the civic body for nearly forty years, to second place, while the Congress-led United Democratic Front fell to third.
Political analysts see the Delhi visit as a strategic morale booster for the BJP as it gears up for the forthcoming Assembly elections, indicating the party’s aim to leverage its municipal success into broader electoral momentum.
Currently, the BJP lacks representation in the 140-member Kerala Assembly.
