New Delhi, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0), situated across 10 states with anticipated investments totaling Rs 1,46,846 crore, are expected to create approximately 1.80 lakh jobs, according to information shared in Parliament on Wednesday.
Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada, stated in a written response to a Lok Sabha inquiry that 11 EMC and 2 CFC (common facility centre) projects have received approval thus far.
These projects span an area of 4,399.68 acres with an estimated project cost of Rs 5,226.49 crore, which includes a central financial assistance of Rs 2,492.74 crore, as reported by the minister.
Additionally, the EMC 2.0 initiative mandates that at least 10 percent of the leasable or saleable area within the cluster is designated for Ready Built Factory (RBF) facilities.
The RBF sheds being constructed in the approved EMC 2.0 parks are at various stages of development.
A commitment of investment amounting to Rs 1,13,000 crore has been pledged by 123 land allottees (manufacturers) within the approved EMCs. Out of these, nine units have commenced production and have mobilized an investment of Rs 12,569.69 crore, generating 13,680 jobs, according to the minister.
Moreover, an independent impact evaluation of the EMC 2.0 Scheme was performed by the National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises under the Ministry of MSME.
The evaluation underscores the accelerated enhancement of electronics manufacturing infrastructure, improved supply-chain responsiveness, availability of RBF/Plug-and-Play facilities, economical logistics, and substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities, alongside advanced skill development within the cluster ecosystem, as articulated by Prasada.
The government initiated the Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) Scheme in April 2020, which aims to foster the creation of top-tier electronics manufacturing infrastructure through funding dedicated clusters with communal facilities.
