Khandwa, January 1 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the Raj Rajeshwari Tripur Sundari Temple situated along the Narmada River on Thursday, where he offered his prayers to mark the New Year.
Accompanying him was his wife, Seema Yadav, as they participated in the rituals together.
Following the temple visit, the Chief Minister inspected a maternal and child health center operated by the Raj Rajeshwari Temple Trust. During this visit, he engaged with both women and staff to gather insights regarding the health services available at the facility.
Additionally, Chief Minister Yadav distributed nutritional food supplies to pregnant and lactating women, conveying his best wishes to them, as shared on his official X account.
The issue of malnutrition remains a persistent and serious concern in Madhya Pradesh, despite substantial financial allocations from both the Central and state governments each year.
As per official records presented in the state Assembly in August 2025, a total of 85,330 children have been admitted to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres in tribal regions from 2020 until June 2025.
The data indicates a significant increase in annual admissions, jumping from 11,566 in 2020-21 to 20,741 in 2024-25.
Furthermore, over 10 lakh children in Madhya Pradesh are reported to be malnourished, with 1.36 lakh suffering from severe stunting.
As of April 2025, the national rate of severe and moderate malnutrition among children under five years was 5.4%, while Madhya Pradesh's figure stands alarmingly high at 7.79%.
The situation is exacerbated by anaemia, which affects 57% of women in the state, impacting the health of future generations even before birth.
The government allocates Rs 980 per child at Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres and Rs 12 daily for severely malnourished children in Anganwadis, while normal children receive Rs 8.
Despite a budget allocation of Rs 4,895 crore for 2025-26, the on-ground scenario remains largely unchanged.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government has declared that Madhya Pradesh has moved beyond the 'BIMARU' classification in 2023.
