MP studying Vaishno Devi model to upgrade pilgrimage management: CM Yadav
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday, 29 May said his government is studying the management model of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir to overhaul crowd control, security, and pilgrim amenities at major religious destinations across the state. The announcement came as Yadav spoke to reporters in Jammu before departing for the Mata Vaishno Devi Dham.
What the Study Covers
A dedicated Madhya Pradesh government delegation has been tasked with conducting a detailed review of the shrine's operational systems. The study encompasses digital registration systems, crowd control protocols, accommodation infrastructure, and streamlined darshan management — elements that have made Vaishno Devi one of the most efficiently managed pilgrimage sites in the country.
'We are working continuously to improve facilities for devotees at religious places in Madhya Pradesh. Our aim is to develop the state as a model destination for pilgrims by adopting successful systems from across the country,' Chief Minister Yadav said.
Meetings with J&K Tourism Officials
During his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Yadav also held discussions with officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department on pilgrimage management and tourism infrastructure. He noted that the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board operates not just a well-organised darshan system but also educational and healthcare institutions — a holistic model the state wants to replicate.
'The Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has created a highly organised and service-oriented system for devotees. Along with darshan arrangements, it is also operating educational and healthcare institutions. We want to study this model in detail and develop similar facilities in Madhya Pradesh,' Yadav added.
Key Religious Sites in the Spotlight
The modernisation drive will prioritise three of Madhya Pradesh's most prominent pilgrimage destinations: Mahakal Temple in Ujjain, Omkareshwar Dham, and Bhojshala in Dhar. These sites collectively draw millions of devotees annually and have faced recurring challenges around crowd management and civic amenities.
₹33,000 Crore in Religious Infrastructure Underway
Chief Minister Yadav highlighted that development works worth nearly ₹30,000 crore are currently underway in Ujjain ahead of Simhastha 2028. Separately, the Ekatm Dham project at Omkareshwar, estimated at approximately ₹3,000 crore, is also progressing rapidly. Together, these projects signal the state government's intent to position Madhya Pradesh as a premier religious tourism destination. Recommendations from the delegation's cross-country study of pilgrimage centres are expected to feed directly into upgraded management systems across the state.
