Ujjain, Nov 25 (NationPress) A significant protest erupted in Ujjain on Tuesday, as farmers expressed their grievances regarding the shortage and delays in the distribution of urea fertiliser, resulting in extensive traffic disruptions on the Ujjain-Agar (Malwa) highway.
The demonstration, involving more than 200 farmers, initiated after reports surfaced that government-operated fair price centres were not providing sufficient fertiliser.
Farmers locked the entry to Ujjain mandi and conducted a dharna, insisting on timely fertiliser distribution.
Protesters noted that while approximately 300 farmers receive tokens daily, only around 70-80 manage to obtain fertiliser.
“We endure long waits only to be told to come back the next day,” shared farmer Dhirendra Parmar.
Another farmer, Jagdish Kumar, remarked that many leave empty-handed despite standing in line since the morning.
Officials from the police and district administration arrived to convince the farmers to clear the road.
A senior official from the agriculture department reassured the farmers that there was no urea shortage and that every farmer would receive an adequate supply.
Following this assurance, the farmers concluded the protest, and traffic resumed.
Previously, similar shortages of urea and DAP were observed during the paddy sowing season, prompting protests throughout Madhya Pradesh.
