Bhopal, June 11 (NationPress) With the distinction of having the largest forest cover and the most diverse wildlife in the nation, the Madhya Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, announced on Wednesday plans to enhance the number of wildlife rescue centres throughout the state.
Currently, there exists a solitary wildlife rescue centre in Van Vihar, located in the capital city of Bhopal, where injured and ailing animals from across Madhya Pradesh receive medical attention.
However, frequent changes in their habitats can lead to stress for these animals.
The introduction of new divisional rescue centres aims to provide improved care and rehabilitation for wildlife in more familiar settings.
"Madhya Pradesh boasts rich biodiversity, hosting various species of wildlife. Our initiative is to establish rescue centres in multiple regions for the protection and care of these invaluable creatures," stated the Chief Minister on Wednesday.
He pointed out that the state is home to the largest population of leopards, along with various species, including vultures, crocodiles, and alligators, found in its diverse forests.
Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that substantial efforts are underway for wildlife conservation, forest protection, and ecological restoration.
The state has introduced King Cobras for wildlife enthusiasts and is in the process of developing a new national park at Gandhi Sagar by relocating Cheetahs from the Kuno National Park.
With the establishment of two new Tiger National Parks and the rising populations of cheetahs and other wildlife, the necessity for divisional-level rescue centres has become clear.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister mentioned plans to increase the number of zoos (animal parks) in Madhya Pradesh, indicating that two new zoos have been approved in the state budget.
This announcement was made during his visit to Gujarat's Jamnagar, recognized as the world's largest wildlife rescue centre.
"We will also work towards exchanging wildlife between Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat," the Chief Minister added, acknowledging Gujarat's superior zoos and rescue facilities.
CM Yadav expressed his intention to inspect the facilities in Jamnagar during his study tour to Gujarat, in search of wildlife exchange and conservation opportunities.
