Bhopal, July 1 (NationPress) Individuals who choose to donate their body and organs in Madhya Pradesh will be honored with a state of recognition during their last rites and at significant national events like Independence Day and Republic Day.
A directive regarding this initiative has been released by the General Administration Department (GAD) of the state government, mandating district administrations to put this into action immediately.
According to the GAD's announcement, "Organ donors will be recognized on August 15 and January 26 in their respective regions. Those who donate their bodies prior to passing will receive state honors during their last rites."
This initiative aims to boost public awareness and motivate participation in the noble act of body and organ donations.
In addition, organ donors will receive Ayushman Bharat cards, enabling them to access free medical services under the scheme.
This announcement was initially made by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav following a meeting with Dinesh Malviya, the first person in central India to undergo a heart transplant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, on February 10 of this year.
Malviya was granted a new chance at life following a successful heart transplant at AIIMS, Bhopal, on January 26.
The heart was sourced from a 61-year-old brain-dead patient at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College in Jabalpur and transplanted into a 53-year-old patient from Itarsi.
This marked the inaugural heart transplant case at AIIMS, Bhopal.
The donated heart was airlifted from Jabalpur to Bhopal's Raja Bhoj Airport and subsequently transported to AIIMS via a 'green corridor' established by the state police.
The Chief Minister had announced that the bodies and organs of deceased individuals would be transferred utilizing air ambulance services with the agreement of the family members.
Chief Minister Yadav stated that efforts will be made to set up organ donation and transplant facilities in all medical colleges throughout the state.
