Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday announced the formation of special police companies drawn from the Baiga, Bharia, and Sahariya tribal communities, alongside the creation of three State Industrial Security Force (SISF) units and a new police battalion in Khandwa. The announcements were made at a Police Department event held at Ravindra Bhavan in Bhopal.

Tribal Police Companies: Who Gets Recruited

The special police companies will recruit youths exclusively from the Baiga, Bharia, and Sahariya communities — all three classified as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by the government. The move is aimed at mainstreaming these marginalised communities into the state's security apparatus while bolstering grassroots policing in tribal belts. The first of the three proposed SISF units will be established in the initial phase, Yadav said.

Record Promotions Across 58 Cadres

The event also marked a significant expansion of the existing force. A record 27,534 police officers and personnel across 58 cadres have been promoted, Yadav announced. Of these, 12,928 constables were elevated to head constable, 5,171 head constables were promoted to assistant sub-inspector, and 30 Reserve Inspectors were elevated to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

'The government has resolved to boost the morale of the police force and every police personnel. Those who face physical injuries and stress while maintaining law and order must be assured that their hard work will be recognised and rewarded,' Yadav said.

Fresh Recruitment Drive in Full Swing

More than 14,704 candidates have been selected for various police posts since 2023, with recruitment to another 9,751 posts currently underway, the Chief Minister said. Recruitment for the police band and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is also in its final stages.

Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana confirmed that recruitment to 7,500 posts of constables, subedars, and sub-inspectors — approved earlier — was nearing completion. An additional 9,662 posts have been approved for recruitment this year.

Hawk Force and Simhastha 2028 Preparedness

Makwana said the Hawk Force had played a decisive role in eliminating Naxalism from the state. Recruitment has been completed for 325 posts in the Hawk Force and 882 posts in the Special Auxiliary Squad. More than 18,000 police personnel recruited over the last two years will be available for security duties at Simhastha 2028 after completing their training, he added.

'The khaki uniform and the stars on the shoulders symbolise the security and trust of 8.5 crore people of Madhya Pradesh,' Yadav said, urging personnel to serve with 'honesty, sensitivity, discipline and impartiality.' With large-scale promotions, fresh recruitment, and new force units in the pipeline, Madhya Pradesh's police modernisation push is set to reshape the state's law-enforcement landscape ahead of Simhastha 2028.

Point of View

But its impact depends entirely on implementation: whether these recruits receive equal pay, career pathways, and operational roles, or are siloed into ceremonial units. The record 27,534 promotions, meanwhile, address a long-standing morale deficit in the MP police, but the simultaneous push to fill over 19,000 posts in a compressed timeline raises questions about training quality. With Simhastha 2028 as the hard deadline, the risk is that headcount targets override institutional standards.
