Jabalpur, Nov 4 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh High Court has rejected a public interest litigation that challenged the necessity of the e-attendance system for government school teachers, allowing the policy to persist without legal obstacles.

A division bench comprised of Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf determined that the issue falls under executive policy and does not warrant judicial intervention.

The petition was initiated by Sunil Kumar Singh, the chairman of the Guest Teacher Coordination Committee in Ashoknagar district. He contested a June 20 directive from the School Education Department mandating digital attendance through the Humare Shikshak app for over 350,000 teachers, effective July 1, 2025.

Singh pointed out connectivity issues in rural areas, cautioning that inadequate network coverage might lead to unintended absences and salary deductions for educators in regions with unreliable signals.

In defense of the state, Additional Advocate General Nilesh Yadav argued that the platform facilitates real-time monitoring, reduces proxy teaching, and supports data-driven transfers and promotions.

He assured the bench that offline alternatives are available for areas with poor connectivity and that district officials have organized practical sessions to train staff on geo-tagged photo uploads within specified morning hours.

During the hearings, the court acknowledged the system's alignment with larger Education 3.0 reforms aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency.

It was noted that alternative solutions sufficiently address rural challenges, making the petition premature.

After the bench indicated its inclination, Singh requested and was granted permission to withdraw the petition, effectively concluding the case. This ruling bolsters the department's initiative, which initially faced pushback, including a partial boycott on its launch day when fewer than ten percent of teachers logged in.

Officials now report compliance has risen above 90 percent as training improves and signal boosters are deployed in remote areas.

State Education Minister Rao Uday Pratap Singh welcomed the ruling, stating it affirms efforts to enhance transparency within a sector that serves millions of students across 1.2 lakh schools.
