Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A 30-year-old man from Odisha was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a hotel room in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday evening, 17 August, with police and a forensic team investigating the case. The deceased has been identified as Bachhal Loknath, a resident of Ganjam district in Odisha.
How the Body Was Discovered
Loknath's body was found in Room No. 105 of Chandravyu Hotel, which falls under the limits of Kolgawan police station. According to police, hotel staff reported that he had not been seen leaving his room after 14 August. When there was no movement from the room on Monday evening, the hotel manager had it opened and found Loknath dead on the floor.
Loknath had checked into the hotel on 29 July and had been a regular guest at the same property for approximately one and a half years, visiting Satna frequently for company-related work, police said.
Evidence Found at the Scene
A police and forensic team inspected the room following the discovery. Traces of blood were found on the floor near the body, and blood was also noticed from the deceased's nose. Investigators recovered eleven empty liquor bottles, cigarette packets, and corn cobs from the room. All items have been taken into account as part of the ongoing investigation.
Hotel staff told investigators that Loknath generally ordered food once a day and would also order liquor and cigarettes in the evening.
What Police Said
'The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained. The body has been sent to the district hospital, and further action will be taken after the post-mortem examination,' a police official said.
The forensic team's preliminary assessment reportedly suggested the body was around two days old at the time of discovery. Police are currently questioning hotel staff and examining evidence collected from the room.
Family Informed, Autopsy Pending
The deceased's family was informed after the body was found. Family members told police during the inquiry that they had last spoken to Loknath over the phone on the evening of 15 August. The post-mortem examination is to be conducted after the arrival of Loknath's family members in Satna. The exact cause and circumstances of death will be formally established after the autopsy and further police investigation.
