Kolkata, Oct 27 (NationPress) The lifeless body of a woman from Bihar was discovered in a locked hotel room in Siliguri, located in North Bengal, as reported by local police on Monday.
A senior official from the Siliguri Police Commissionerate confirmed that the body was found on Friday, with the autopsy conducted on Sunday at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, accompanied by the deceased's family members.
The woman was identified as Pooja Das (25), a resident of Katihar, Bihar. She had arrived at the hotel with her husband and child on October 22. However, her husband had gone missing with their child since the incident.
On the morning of October 24, the husband approached the hotel reception to arrange transportation home. He then exited the hotel with the child and never returned. The hotel staff grew suspicious when neither the man nor the woman emerged from the room, prompting them to alert the authorities.
After forcibly opening the locked hotel room, police found the woman's body lying on the bed. Reports indicated that blood was oozing from her mouth, and there were visible injuries on her neck.
The body was taken to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. During the investigation, it was revealed that the man accompanying the woman was her husband, and the child was theirs.
Further inquiries uncovered that this was the man's second marriage. The police have retrieved CCTV footage from the hotel and nearby areas as part of the investigation. Authorities suspect the woman's husband may be involved in her death.
According to DCP Rakesh Singh of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, "Initial investigations suggest that the woman was murdered by the man she was with, who we believe is her husband. We have initiated a search for him. Once apprehended, we will ascertain the motive behind the murder."
The deceased's family in Katihar was notified using the address on the identity card provided at the hotel. They arrived at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on Saturday.
