Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Feb 24 (NationPress) The remains of a NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh, who had been unaccounted for over six days, were discovered in a canal located in the Baran district of Rajasthan.
The student was reported to have been swept away from the Chambal Canal in Kota, and his body was located approximately 50 kilometers away in the Anta region, entangled in a tree along the right main canal, according to police officials on Tuesday.
The deceased has been confirmed as 23-year-old Lokesh Dangi, a resident of Bhadaheri village in Rajgarh district, Madhya Pradesh.
Lokesh had dedicated the last five years to preparing for the NEET examination in Kota.
Due to prolonged exposure to water, his body exhibited severe decomposition.
After conducting a post-mortem examination, authorities returned the body to the family on Monday evening.
According to the Anta police, around 12:30 PM on Monday, local residents gathering firewood near a railway bridge close to the NDPC factory discovered the body lodged in a tree in the canal and notified the authorities. Police subsequently recovered the body and informed the family.
Family members who were searching for Lokesh hurried to Anta after being alerted about an unidentified body in Baran district. He was identified by his clothing—a red T-shirt and black trousers—as well as his physical features.
Lokesh had been residing in Kota for five years for his exam preparations. On February 17, he left his hostel in the afternoon and did not come back. When his phone was found to be off, his family traveled to Kota and lodged a missing person report at the Borkheda police station that same night.
CCTV footage captured Lokesh exiting the hostel and later heading towards the canal.
On February 18, his shoes, slippers, cap, and mobile phone were discovered on the banks of the Chambal Canal in the Kaithun police station jurisdiction.
Police and SDRF teams initiated a search operation on February 19, traversing several kilometers of the canal.
Despite extensive searches, no leads were found initially.
On the sixth day, the body was ultimately recovered in Baran district. Authorities indicated that further investigation is ongoing, based on the post-mortem findings and additional evidence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death.
