Balaghat, Nov 11 (NationPress) In a shocking turn of events, a woman was brutally murdered by a man in broad daylight in the Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, as reported by police on Tuesday.
The gruesome act took place in Baihar town, a region predominantly inhabited by tribal communities, and was recorded by witnesses on their mobile devices, instigating widespread fear among residents.
Social media platforms were soon flooded with videos depicting the man attacking the woman with a knife before slitting her throat repeatedly.
Footage displayed the woman lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood.
In a bizarre twist, after committing the act, the perpetrator lay beside her and fainted, leading bystanders to subdue him before handing him over to law enforcement.
Despite more than a dozen witnesses observing the incident from a short distance, none intervened to save the victim, although one individual managed to alert the local police.
Upon arrival, authorities found the assailant lying unconscious next to a knife stained with blood. He was subsequently arrested and taken to a hospital for medical attention.
The victim has been identified as Ritu Bhandarkar, a local of Amgaon village, who was employed at a furniture shop in Baihar town.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adarsh Kant Shukla, the victim was at a bus stop when the suspect approached her on a motorcycle.
ASP Shukla stated that preliminary investigations suggest that the victim and the accused were acquainted.
"Tempers flared during their exchange, and the man drew a knife, stabbing her violently. After she collapsed, he proceeded to slit her throat," he explained.
Authorities confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who is currently hospitalized. Interrogation will commence once he regains consciousness, while the deceased's body has been sent for autopsy. An investigation is ongoing," ASP Shukla added.
