Bhopal, June 30 (NationPress) The bodies of three youths who had gone missing have been found at Brihaspati Kund (waterfall) in the vicinity of Brijpur police station on Monday.

The Chief Minister has announced a financial aid of Rs 4 lakh for each family of the deceased. He expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic demise of the three youths swept away by a powerful current in the Susi Jalprapat, a natural water body.

“It is heartbreaking to learn about the drowning of three youths in Brihaspati Kund waterfall in the Panna district,” stated the Chief Minister, noting that the SDRF team successfully recovered the bodies of the three youths who had been missing since Sunday.

“We stand with the grieving families during this difficult time. Each family of the deceased will receive Rs 4 lakh in support,” he added.

This unfortunate incident took place along the Panna–Pahadikhera road on Sunday when three friends—one from Satna and two from Panna—entered the water for a swim and were unexpectedly caught in a surge.

“The bodies have been located and sent for post-mortem,” stated Mahendra Singh Bhadauria, the investigating officer and in-charge of Brijpur police station, during an interview with IANS.

The deceased have been identified as Twarit Choudhary, Krishna Sharma, and Abhishek Berman, all aged between 18 and 20 years,” the officer added.

A collaborative rescue operation was initiated by teams from Brijpur police station in Panna and Baraundha police station from neighboring Satna. Divers and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed to assist with the search.

The operation had to be paused on Sunday evening due to poor visibility and safety issues after nightfall but resumed early Monday morning, with teams meticulously searching the kund and nearby areas.

Local villagers participated in the efforts, providing logistical help and sharing knowledge about the terrain.

This incident is not an isolated case at Brihaspati Kund. The site has experienced several drownings in recent years, including a tragic event involving a medical student from Kanpur in 2024 who jumped in to save a friend.

Despite being a popular tourist attraction, the site lacks essential safety measures, such as warning signs, lifeguards, or barricades, raising significant concerns about visitor safety.

Brihaspati Kund, also known as Susi Jalprapat, is a waterfall and natural crater located in the Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, near Kalinjar Fort. It is renowned for its scenic beauty and religious significance, with legends attributing its origin to Dev Guru Brihaspati.
