Rewa, May 18 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking turn of events, six individuals, including three young children, lost their lives in two separate drowning incidents in eastern Madhya Pradesh, specifically in Mauganj and Satna districts.
In the Mauganj police station jurisdiction, three brothers tragically drowned on Sunday morning in the Nihai river at Paipkhar village. The victims, identified as Aman Tiwari (18), Abhay Tiwari (17), and their cousin Abhishek Mishra (24), succumbed to the strong currents of the river, as explained by investigation officer Rajesh Patel during an interview with IANS.
According to Patel, the three siblings had ventured to the river seeking relief from the oppressive summer heat. They initially jumped into shallow waters, but were swept away by the current when they attempted to rescue one another. Abhishek was the first to enter the deeper water, prompting Aman and Abhay to jump in to save him when they saw him struggling.
Unfortunately, they were unaware of the river’s depth and powerful current, resulting in all three drowning.
Local residents and police launched a rescue operation, successfully recovering their bodies after two hours. They were subsequently rushed to a hospital, where medical personnel pronounced them dead.
Following post-mortem examinations, the bodies were returned to their grieving families. Aman and Abhay were from Paipkhar village, while Abhishek hailed from Dugoli village and worked as a clerk at HDFC Bank in Mauganj. He had visited his aunt's home the day prior after completing his work shift. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a separate tragedy, three tribal children drowned in Amua Dam located in Satna district on Saturday.
The local administration acted quickly, retrieving the bodies within half an hour. The three children—Abhijeet, son of Ajit Kol (6), Abhi, son of Kallu Kol (5), and Krishna, son of Nandu Kol (5)—were residents of Kandaila village. After completing the Panchnama proceedings, their bodies were sent for post-mortem examinations.
A senior police officer reported that four children had gone to the dam for a swim, all around the same age. While one child stayed on the embankment, the other three entered the water. When the child on the embankment saw his friends struggling, he rushed to a nearby village, located two kilometers away, to seek assistance. Sadly, by the time the villagers arrived, it was too late, and the three had drowned.
Majhgawan Tehsildar Somesh Dwivedi and Dharkundi Police Station Incharge Shailendra Singh visited the scene, pledging support to the bereaved families, which included a financial assistance of Rs 25,000 to each affected family of the three children.
