Bhopal, Feb 27 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced on Thursday that the state has experienced a remarkable 14 percent growth in the renewable energy sector, elevating its contribution to total energy production to over 30 percent over the last 12 years.
He emphasized that Madhya Pradesh has become one of India’s foremost power-surplus states and is actively pursuing initiatives for environmental conservation, with a strong focus on expanding renewable energy capabilities.
The Chief Minister revealed that Madhya Pradesh currently boasts a power generation capacity of around 31,000 MW, with 30 percent of this being green energy.
Highlighting two significant floating solar power plants located in Rewa and Omkareshwar, Chief Minister Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh has reached a new achievement in the field of renewable energy production.
"Madhya Pradesh is the first state in India to adopt a technology-agnostic renewable energy policy. This approach offers investors flexible and advantageous opportunities to enhance solar and wind energy, thereby creating new avenues in the energy landscape," the Chief Minister remarked.
He also mentioned that in line with its commitment to environmental conservation and the advancement of renewable energy, an initiative is underway to establish Sanchi as the state’s inaugural solar city.
"This city will operate on the net zero carbon principle, where the energy consumed will equal the green energy produced. This project aims to serve as a motivating example for both the nation and the globe," the Chief Minister further added.
Yadav highlighted that to attain a net-zero carbon footprint in the country by 2070 and explore alternatives to dwindling fossil fuel resources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set an ambitious goal to generate 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030.
"Madhya Pradesh is wholly dedicated to fulfilling this national objective, and PM Modi himself has recognized the state's advancements in the energy sector over the past decade during the inauguration of GIS-Bhopal," he concluded.
