New Delhi, Oct 11 (NationPress) “Mr. Prime Minister, you are great,” was the heartfelt message inscribed by US President Donald Trump on a photograph featuring himself and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This framed picture was presented to PM Modi by US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor on Saturday.
The image was captured during a White House press conference, held after their discussions earlier this year.
Following the meeting, Gor expressed, “An honour to be with PM Narendra Modi this evening. Our relationship with India will only strengthen over the months ahead!” on X.
He described his conversation with Prime Minister Modi as “incredible,” covering topics such as trade, critical minerals, and defense.
On Saturday, Gor conducted several meetings prior to his evening engagement with PM Modi.
PM Modi shared on X, “Glad to receive Mr. Sergio Gor, Ambassador-designate of the US to India. I’m confident that his tenure will further strengthen the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.”
Gor, along with Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J Rigas, is visiting India from October 9 to 14, where they aim to engage with Indian officials on various bilateral issues.
A statement from the US Embassy in India affirmed, “The United States will continue to work with India to strengthen our strategic partnership and promote a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region.”
Earlier that day, Gor met with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar to discuss the significance of the India-US relationship.
Post-meeting, EAM Jaishankar tweeted, “Pleased to meet Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor of the US today in New Delhi. Discussed the India-US relationship and its global significance. Wish him the best for his new responsibility.”
Gor also had a productive meeting with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
As per MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal's post on X, “They had a productive exchange on the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and its shared priorities. FS wished Amb-designate Gor all success for his assignment.”
Gor’s formal nomination as the US Ambassador to India occurred on August 22, with Senate confirmation on October 7.
This visit is particularly significant as India-US relations face challenges, including rising H1B visa costs and uncertainties related to tariff measures from the Trump administration.
At just 38 years old, Gor is the youngest US Ambassador to India and is recognized as a close aide of Trump, having previously served as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, responsible for vetting over 4,000 positions in the Trump administration.
He will also act as a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.
