Kolkata, Oct 11 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress General Secretary Kunal Ghosh warned on Saturday of a massive protest involving 100,000 people in Delhi if even one legal voter's name is removed from the West Bengal voter list due to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
While speaking at the Vijaya Sammilani event in Ketugram, located in the East Burdwan district, Ghosh emphasized the importance of unity against the SIR. He stated, "We stand with Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. The Trinamool Congress family is with you. If even a single legal voter's name is removed, we will orchestrate a protest outside the ECI office in Delhi with 100,000 participants."
Ghosh also criticized the BJP for pushing the need for an SIR in West Bengal to eliminate illegal voters.
"Previously, they claimed that central forces should be deployed to oversee elections, yet they still lost the West Bengal Assembly polls. Now, they aim to manipulate the voter list, having already included names from other states. Their strategy to win in Maharashtra and Delhi is being replicated here, but Mamata Banerjee is aware of their tactics," Ghosh asserted.
He expressed confidence that the Trinamool would maintain its power in West Bengal, projecting a win of around 250 seats.
"Post the 2026 Assembly elections, the Trinamool will return to power with 250 seats. The Chief Minister's position will remain unchanged, but the Leader of the Opposition will see a shift, as the BJP will lack sufficient MLAs for that role," Ghosh mentioned.
With indications that the ECI's SIR in West Bengal is set to begin after October 15, it was clarified that the criteria for selecting electoral officers, particularly booth-level officers (BLOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), cannot be compromised.
