New Delhi, Aug 18 (NationPress): The overall count of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) registered for various incentives on the Udyam Registration Portal and Udyam Assist Platform across the nation during the five-year span from July 1, 2020, to July 31, 2025, has surged to 6.63 crore, as informed to Parliament on Monday.
The Ministry of MSME has implemented several initiatives aimed at promoting and developing the MSME sector, including the launch of Udyam Registration, which has simplified the process of doing business for these smaller units. The introduction of the Udyam Assist Platform (UAP) has also played a pivotal role in bringing Informal Micro Enterprises (IMEs) into the formal sector, allowing them to benefit from priority sector lending (PSL). Furthermore, the inclusion of retail and wholesale traders within the MSME category has significantly aided small businesses, as stated by Minister of State for MSMEs Shobha Karandlaje during a written response in the Rajya Sabha.
Additional measures include the revamped government credit guarantee scheme for MSMEs, which has received an infusion of Rs 9,000 crore to enable an extra Rs 2 lakh crore in credit for MSEs and expand job opportunities.
Moreover, the Self-Reliant India (SRI) Fund has been established to inject Rs 50,000 crore in equity funding into MSMEs that demonstrate growth potential and viability for expansion into larger enterprises.
The introduction of the 'PM Vishwakarma' Scheme aims to provide comprehensive benefits to traditional artisans and craftsmen engaged in 18 trades, marking a significant boost to the sector.
As of April 1, 2025, collateral-free loans of up to Rs 10 crore will be available for MSEs, with 90 percent guarantee coverage for various loan categories, as indicated by the minister through the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) under the Credit Guarantee Scheme.
To address the issue of delayed payments to MSMEs, a Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) has been established to facilitate the financing of trade receivables from corporates and other buyers, including government departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs), through multiple financiers electronically.
The enhancement of the maximum project cost from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh for the manufacturing sector and from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh for the service sector under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation programme (PMEGP) has broadened the scope of the scheme, the minister concluded.
